TED is an international set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, under the slogan “ideas worth spreading”. TED was founded in 1984 as a one-off event and has grown into an international institution with ground breaking talks, demos and new technology presentations video filmed for the world to watch. I have been a big fan of the platform for years and when I saw the familiar TED logo on my SmartTV, I certainly was pleased!

So how is the app? Well, it’s very simple and basic as one would expect from a TED app. When you launch the app, you are presented with the ‘featured’ screen displaying talks that TED have pushed to their main page. The navigation around content is the usual left, right, up, down and select. Clicking into a video displays a page with a description of the video along with related videos. Playing videos works really well too with virtually no buffering at all and the video quality in our opinion was outstanding and very HD like. The videos are also split into categories called themes, which is a nice way to filter through the videos with ease.

There really is a lot of content with this app and it is a great way to get a heads up on some amazing yet life changing videos ranging from short clips to full 2 hour lectures. Ideally the app is suited to anyone due to the broad range of topics from music, wisdom and science to international politics and technology. Overall, due to the nature of the content, the performance of the app and the ethos behind an institution like Ted, we are giving this a 4 out of 4. Well done TED!
