One of my TV’s is the Samsung ES8000 LCD TV (which is a 2012 version) and as soon as the Evolution Kit came out, I was keen to try it so I could enjoy the new SmartHub and the new improved features. The kit turns my 2012 TV into a 2013 model which is a first in the TV world. No longer do we have to replace a TV every few years. Instead we can simply upgrade it in the same way we do for a PC.

The device is very well built and feels sturdy. It also has a nice bezel finish on it – Not that it matters as no one will see it anyway. It’s also about the size of a average hand, so quite a good size. The device also has a list of the TV’s it works with printed on the kit itself.

It also comes with a new bluetooth remote control as per below.

Before you plug the device in, you need to make sure you have the latest version of the Samsung Firmware on your TV as per our post here.

Once you have performed the firmware update, you simply slot the evolution kit into the back of the TV via a small cable as per the image below.

Once plugged in, you simply turn the TV on and the TV will perform an upgrade process which took me 20 minutes. Please do not turn the TV off whilst this is happening. After the update, the Evolution kit will take you through a wizard to select your country, time, input sources, channels, tuning, pin code, ect.

That’s it really. The whole process takes about 2 hours and once complete, your 2012 TV will now be a 2013 model with a faster processor, better graphics, gesture control, voice control and the lovely looking new version of SmartHub. It does feel strange being able to upgrade your TV but hey, whose complaining! It’s a great idea and I absolutely love it.

The Samsung Evolution Kit is available for approx £214. You can buy it here.
